DABS Business Lecture; 'The Culture Map, navigating in Asia'

The culture map.png

The Culture Map

In this last DABS Business Lecture before the summer break Asger Daugbjerg will do a presentation on the extend and the impact that cultural differences have in a business environment, often without business managers being fully aware of these differences.

We tend to navigate in negotiations and leadership decisions according to our own cultural compass. But so do others. When our compasses are different, misunderstandings can happen, and we might lose the business deal. And the further apart different cultures are from each other the bigger the risk.

This presentation will take its starting point in Professor at INSEAD Business School Erin Meyer’s 2014 book ‘The Cultural Map’ which maps the importance of knowing cultural differences on eight different dimensions: Communicating, Evaluating, Leading, Deciding, Trusting, Disagreeing, Scheduling. In the business lecture we will briefly discuss all eight dimensions. .

Registration starts at 7.45AM

EU–Singapore Free Trade Agreement – A Joint DABS & Embassy Event

Capture.PNG2.PNG

A sounding yes in the European Parliament in February 2019 settles the landmark free trade agreement between the EU and Singapore.
The agreement will gradually eliminate nearly all tariffs on goods over the next five years. The agreement will also make it easier for companies from EU countries to sell services in Singapore.

Aside from lowering the cost of doing business and opening new opportunities for businesses on both sides, the European Union-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (EUSFTA) will also allow EU firms to compete for public procurement contracts in Singapore.

But how exactly does the agreement offer better market access for Danish exporters already active in the Singapore market, and what’s in it for businesses with eyes on Singapore? Join us and get to know the deal

Why should I take part in the event?

Get an overview of the most important business-critical elements in the agreement. Under which conditions the EUSFTA may boost Danish exports to and investments in Singapore.

Learn about concrete examples of customs savings, what paper work do you need to do, new rules and benefits.

Understand how to engage with the Danish Trade Council and the powerful EU system to change or remove public regulations in export markets that make up a barrier for your business.

Get the opportunity to engage with experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.

Program

08:00 – Registration opens
08:30 – Welcome by the Danish Ambassador to Singapore
08:40 – Briefing

  • EUSFTA: What’s in it for Danish companies?

  • Using free trade agreements among ASEAN countries and China to minimise customs duty payments.

  • Using the Embassy and the EU system to handle market barriers in Singapore and other Asian markets.

10:10-10:25 – Coffee break

Participants can choose one of the following two sessions:

10.25-11.45 – Workshop on trade in goods: How to minimise your customs duty payments using the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement.

10:25-11.45 – Workshop on trade in services (focus on shipping and financial services): What are the benefits of the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement?

11:45-13:00 – Lunch buffet & networking.

Meet the experts

we have analysed the content of the new EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement. To provide an overview for Danish businesses, Søren Rinder and Humera Arshad from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs will join us to share their insights on the benefits of the trade agreement for Danish companies exporting to and importing from Singapore

Capture.PNG7.PNG

Both Søren and Humera have several years of experience giving concrete guidance to Danish companies. Their guidance focuses on how Danish companies benefit from the trade agreements that the EU has concluded with almost 70 markets outside the Union.

Find more info about their services in relation to free trade agreements here. In relation to customs and trade barriers here.

Book a 1:1 meeting with the experts after lunch

Elaborate, clarify and go in-depth. The 1:1 meetings offer an opportunity to better understand free trade agreements across the Asia-Pacific region and discuss how you can benefit from EU’s trade agreements at large. On basis of the individual conversations, Humera and Søren will tailor their guidance according to your specific sector and profile while pinpointing specific opportunities for saving customs duties in Singapore and a number of export markets.

SoMe.png

Work smarter, not harder

In this DABS Business Lecture we will discuss how to talk the talk and walk the walk in terms of Lean & Process Management. Or in other words: How to better be able to understand, challenge and improve the processes in your company and support those people responsible for improving it.

The main focus will be based on ‘best in class’ methods and tools used in manufacturing, however we will also discuss examples related to non-manufacturing industries.

We will look into the following areas:
What is Lean
How to create flow
Hot eliminate waste
Reducing non-value add
Standardize and sustain

We encourage participants to bring examples of Lean challenges which we can then discuss in this lecture.

DABS Business Lecture, 'Unleash Your Creativity'

capture-jpg2_1_orig.jpg

Any successful business is so because it is disruptive!

When we as business people plan new activities to navigate in a super competitive landscape we often try to find theright answer. But perhaps rather than looing for the right answer we should look at several different strategic options - all developed to be disruptive rather than a continuation of past linear data. Being creative is about being disruptive: To dare the new, the unproven, the risky but also potentially rewarding because we move out of the clutter to find a Blue Ocean.

In this morning lecture Asger will discuss how organisations can become more creative, share examples of past creative break-throughs and give his perspective on what it will take of you as a leader to manage creativity. And last but not least Asger will advocate that big data will never beat a twisted mindset.

Internet of Things by Pernille Dahlgaard, Accenture

About 10B devices are connected to the Internet, mostly computers and phones. By 2020, there may be 30B, and most will not be computers. Instead, they will be common “things,” like light bulbs, car tires and trash cans. This has increasing impact on our lives – both personally and professionally. It changes the way we interact, the way we manage our businesses and used in the right way, there are tremendous benefits to be reaped.

In the business lecture, Pernille Dahlgaard, Director at Accenture, will provide a perspective on what this means and how you best integrate the Internet of Things into your business strategy.
